AI News Reporter

Register the keywords you care about, and it sends you a summary of related news by email or Slack — whenever you choose.

How it works

  1. Your keywords
  2. Search & collect news
  3. Summarise with an LLM
  4. Email · Slack · File

Free and open source

AI News Reporter is free to use under the MIT license. It runs on your own computer with your own API keys, so any fees for those outside services (news search and the LLM) are billed by their providers, not by us.

Features

  • Keywords and sites — list what to follow in one config file.
  • Search plus scraping — Tavily news search, plus any sites you add.
  • Your choice of LLM — Claude API, a Claude account via Claude Code, or OpenAI.
  • Delivery — email, Slack DM, or Markdown / HTML / JSON files.
  • On your schedule — daily or weekly, at the time you set.
  • No duplicates — the same story from several sources is reported once.

What you need

  • Python 3.11+ and uv
  • A Tavily API key (news search)
  • An Anthropic or OpenAI API key — or a Claude account logged in to Claude Code

Get started

Install it, put your API keys in config/.env and your keywords in config/config.yaml, then run a first report:

git clone https://github.com/Ephigma/ai_news_reporter.git
cd ai_news_reporter
uv sync
cp config/.env.example config/.env
cp config/config.example.yaml config/config.yaml
uv run ai-news validate
uv run ai-news run

Email, Slack and scheduled delivery are set up step by step in the README.
